Ligneous Gingivitis: A Systematic Review

Objective: Ligneous gingivitis (LG) is an uncommon disease caused by plasminogen deficiency with fibrin deposition, which affects principally the conjunctiva of eyes. A systemic review reported cases and case series was undertaken to evaluate this disease. Methods: Searches detailed databases were performed. The variables demographics, treatment, follow-up, location, histopathological findings, symptoms test results. Results: 49 identified; LG most frequently seen in white females (68.4%). average age 20.0 years, for males 17.1 years 20.9 years. main symptom pain (40.8%), followed painless presentation (20.4%). common sign bleeding (32.3%). Clinically, both upper lower gingiva where commonly evident 49% cases, only (18.4%). mean size 2.7cm. presence concurrent ligneous conjunctivitis (69.4%). activity 24.7mg/mL. recurrence 59.2% follow-up 18.9 months. Conclusion: diagnosis difficult establish, there not standard common. For oral clinician needs be addressed differential gingival lesions.
